It's winter in Alaska, which can mean a lot of things depending on the year: cold, extreme cold, snow, work, play... This year it seems to mean snow and play.

Scott hit’s the road with camera in hand to capture the more intimate moments we might not otherwise look at ourselves. Take a moment, sit back, and enjoy the views. Even better we hope you’ll get out and play in the snow!

There is one thing that is always consistent with Alaska winters though – darkness. Up until December 21 we lose around 5 minutes of light per day, at which point we start gaining it back at about the same rate. So, if you are a local don’t forget to get out and enjoy the snow. For our friends not currently in Alaska, enjoy our winter from the comfort of your chair. We hope you enjoy!

Hey everyone, we had a great time visiting Fairbanks, Alaska this winter! We tried to make the most of the short time and hope you enjoy this show about getting out and enjoying the colder season of the year in Fairbanks.

We flew in on Era Aviation, which we absolutely love to use when traveling inside the state of Alaska. Seriously, I could go on and on about Era, but one reason we love to fly Era is for the sheer ease of getting to the terminal and boarding without some of the typical hassle you get these days with the larger airlines.

Back to the story, we landed safely in Fairbanks, picked up the Avis rental car, and hit the road to explore Fairbanks!

After a long day of driving around, getting cold, shooting video and general exploration we made our way to the Fairbanks Riverside Princess Lodge to establish our overnight headquarters and unwind with some great food, local Twitter friends and a beer or three.

We do a bit of homework before we travel anywhere, and always leave things as spontaneous as possible. Keeping it real! We’d heard about Princess Lodges, we’ve visited a few location briefly, but for the record everything we’ve been told about their accommodations was completely true. There is no hard sell here for their Lodges, it’s simply a great place to come back to after a day of playing hard. Besides a touch of class never hurt us any (if anything we could probably use a little more class, haha!).

The end story is that it’s impossible to expect to see and experience Fairbanks in a day! If you’re curious what there is to see and do this winter visit Fairbanks Convention and Visitors Bureau calendar at www.explorefairbanks.com/calendar – I suggest the World Ice Art Championships starting February 24, 2009 – March 22, 2009 as a starter!

As a local, the stigma attached to Fairbanks as being “Squarebanks” is not true much anymore. There’s a lot of local development, new and amazing architecture, events, and it is the gateway into the interior of Alaska. We can’t wait to return this summer!
